Hong Kong - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government has submitted an incoming Mutual Legal Assistance request to the Ministry of Law and Human Rights as the designated Indonesian Central Authority. This request was submitted in accordance with the legal proceedings initiated by the Hong Kong Department of Justice's Directorate of Public Prosecutions against KHAW Kim Sun, concerning a request for testimony from an Indonesian citizen named Siti-Maesaroh. The testimony will be delivered via live television link by the Hong Kong prosecutor and defence counsel, and will be attended by a judicial officer from the Indonesian Court.
On 1 October 2024, the Minister of Law and Human Rights submitted a letter to the Attorney General, as the designated authority, requesting mutual assistance. This request pertains to the witness testimony process, the subsequent steps of which are to be followed up. The testimony provided by the witness via live television link was recorded in audio-visual form and transcribed in writing. All documentation and audio-visual recordings produced were verified by the witness as evidence of the MLA request, along with information about the parties involved and those who recorded the testimony. The witness testimony process was conducted at the Banyumas District Court.
The most recent development in this regard is that on 13 November 2024, a test link for the live television link was conducted at the Banyumas District Court. On 19-20 November 2024, witness testimony was formally recorded in a court of law. It is evident that all documentation and audio-visual recordings produced were meticulously verified by the witness as substantiating evidence of the MLA request.
